Florence Primrose Bailes
Florence was born on April 19th, 1902. Florence's father was
George James Bailes and her mother was
Florence Goody. Her maternal grandparents were
Daniel Thomas Goody and
Hannah Ann Hall. She had three brothers and two sisters, named
George,
Joseph,
Stephen,
Annie and
Maud. She is the oldest of the six children.
Birth was registered between April-June 1902 in Mile End Registration District.
1911 Census shows that she was 9 years of age and living in Mile End Old Town.
Florence's second name was Primrose because she was born on Primrose Day April 19th. She was always known in the family as Primmy or Prim.
She went to Ben Johnson Road School in Stepney.
Being the eldest girl, she was expected to help look after the other children (George, Annie and Maud) when their mother died in childbirth. Joe and Stephen were fostered with aunts. Maud was placed in a home until she was two years old.
Primrose lived in the West Ham/Canning Town area of East London after her marriage.
There were eleven childen:- Florence M, Harry W, George J, Maud L, Joseph S, Ellen L, Frederick A, Annie E, Maureen J, Betty J, and Ivy M. They were taken into care when Primmy was left destitute after Harry left her to bring up the children alone.
She later moved to 213 New Barnet Road, Barnet or 213 High Barnet Road, Barnet in the 1940's.
