Sarah was born on January 12th, 1755. Sarah's father was John Goody and her mother was Mary Williams. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Elizabeth and Mary. She was the second oldest of the five children.

Parish records show that she was christened in St Peter's Church, Birch, Essex on 26th April 1755.
