Mary was born on May 14th, 1762. Mary's father was John Goody and her mother was Mary Williams. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Sarah and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the five children.

Parish records show that she was christened in St Peter's Church, Birch, Essex on 23rd May 1762.
