Male Leonard John Goody

Leonard was born in 1896.  Leonard's father was William Goody and his mother was Jane Sophia Martins.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Goody and Eliza Malster. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Arthur, Alfred, David, Joseph, Benjamin, Ethel, Kate, Eva, Lillian and Olive.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children.

Birth was registered between Jan-Mar 1896 in Lexden Registration District.
1901 Census shows he was5 years of age, born in Colchester and was living in the St Botolph district of Colchester, Essex.

Death Notes

He died whilst serving as a Corporal in the 1st/6th Battalion of the Essex Regiment on 2nd November 1917 and is buried in Gaza War Cemetery in Israel.

Gaza was bombarded by French warships in April 1915.  At the end of March 1917, it was attacked and surrounded by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force in the First Battle of Gaza, but the attack was broken off when Turkish reinforcements appeared. The Second Battle of Gaza, 17-19 April 1917, left the Turks in possession and the Third Battle of Gaza, begun on 27 October 1917, ended with the capture of the ruined and deserted city on 7 November 1917. Died at the age of 21 on November 2nd, 1917.
