Cecil was born on October 12th, 1930. Cecil's father was
James Edward Goody and his mother was
Mary Jane Robson. His paternal grandparents were
William Goody and
Martha Bird. He had two brothers and two sisters, named
George,
Norman,
Elsie and
Joyce. He is the fourth oldest of the five children.
He was born in Leadgate, Co Durham and his birth was registered between Oct-Dec 1930 in Lanchester Registration District.
He was stationed in Catterick Yorkshire, Penicuick Midlothian, Osnabruck, Germany and Detmold, Germany. He travelled to the USA courtesy of the British Army aboard the Queen Mary.
Cecil was batman to Major General G E Prior-Palmer CB DSO, father of the show jumper Lucinda Prior-Palmer.
Cecil was stationed in Washington DC USA at the time of his marriage to Barbara and his father, James Edward, was shown to be a Steelworker.
Occupation Details
Volunteered for and joined the Army in 1948. He was in the Army for 10 years and in that time became a Corporal and was involved in the testing of the stabilized gun for the Centurion Tank at the gunnery ranges in Kirkcudbright, Scotland. Later in his army career he was posted to USA.
Their marriage certificate which was issued by the British Joint Services Commission shows that they were married in the North Urbana Chapel of the Baptist Church in Hammondsport, New York, USA.
