1871 Census shows that he was a Labourer in a Gasworks.

Parish records show that they were married in St James The Great Church, Bethnal Green Road, Bethnal Green, Middlesex on 14th December 1868 by J A Tattersall.
The witnesses were Thomas Roy and Isabella Gibbs.
John was shown as being a bachelor and Harriet was shown as being a spinster.
Harriet and Isabella were illiterate.
